6 smartphones to choose from for a successful back to school

Not sure which smartphone to buy with your stocks at the end of the school holidays? To choose, several criteria must be taken into account. First of all the format: do you want a foldable smartphone? A compact cell phone? Or an unusual design like in the Nothing Phone (2)?

Beyond looks, selecting the right amount of storage and RAM is also crucial. In this case, for example, the third generation iPhone SE pales in comparison to the Android sticks. With this, remember to also compare the screens: from 4.7 inches up to over 6 inches, there is currently no shortage of dimensions.

Ready to take the owner’s tour? Let’s go.

Galaxy Z Flip 5: the foldable one

It’s hard to talk about mobile phones without mentioning the case of the most popular device of the moment: the Galaxy Z Flip 5. This model folds in on itself thanks to a 6.7-inch flexible panel, which is not without its appeal. to the iconic value proposition of the GameBoy Advance SP at the time.

Here, however, what we should expect is not at all tactile. All powered by Qualcomm’s excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, considered one of the fastest at the moment. We can only regret the limited definition of the rear sensor (twelve megapixels), but not everyone necessarily seeks better.

Google Pixel 6a: photography at a low price

Let’s now move on to the man who, for us, is the undisputed master of good value for money in photography. We are obviously talking about the Google Pixel 6a, which despite its only twelve megapixels takes excellent shots. Users can thus take advantage of a wide angle and an ultra-wide angle (respective apertures: f/1.7 and f/2.2), with the possibility of shooting in 4K.

And then the front? It will be eight megapixels, wide angle and with f / 2.0 aperture to capture as much light as possible. However, it is only possible to shoot in 1080p with the front camera, but this will be more than enough for nomadic visionaries.

The Google Pixel 6a is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E. It unlocks via a fingerprint sensor installed under the screen and the battery reaches an impressive 4,410 mAh.

No Telephone (2): for style

The Nothing Phone (2) is an exception in the high-end smartphone market. And for good reason: its transparent back gives pride of place to multiple LEDs whose automatic lighting is fully customizable by the owner. We were able to test this value proposition and the result is nothing short of positive.

After all, the Nothing Phone (2) is basically just a high-end Android phone, very banal. Furthermore, the chip is limited to a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but with eight to twelve gigabytes of RAM depending on the model chosen. In this way Corning’s Gorilla Glass helps the front to fight against scratches, like most other mobiles of the moment.

iPhone SE: for teenage Apple fans

With its tiny 4.7-inch touch screen, Apple’s third-generation iPhone SE is THE compact mobile phone par excellence. As a bonus, its price falls below the symbolic threshold of 600 euros. It is the only iPhone to have this possibility. Furthermore, the chip is particularly efficient since it is neither more nor less than the one that also equips the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max (with, of course, one less graphics card core).

The third generation iPhone SE is of course equipped with the iOS operating system, which has become increasingly open over time. The smartphone is compatible with 5G and resistant to water, up to one meter deep for thirty minutes (maximum). A fourth generation is on the way, but this one won’t hit stores until 2024.

Honor 90: the best value for money

The Honor 90 is affordable, but it doesn’t skimp on quality features. The screen offers a large diagonal of 6.7 inches, equal to that of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, all the same. RAM goes up to sixteen gigabytes, but the chip is confined to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 range.

As for selfies, the manufacturer has reserved for us here a photographic sensor of a good fifty megapixels, against the two hundred on the back. All with an ultra wide angle capable of capturing very wide landscapes, as the name suggests. Downside, and not least: no Wi-Fi 6E. But only a few professionals will see anything wrong with it.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12: the very low price

Finally, let’s talk about the case of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. This device also has a large display, 6.67 inches to be exact. However, for a screen-to-body ratio of just 85%. But a punch cuts off the forty-eight megapixel front-facing photo sensor, which leaves room for images.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 supports microSD cards and has four, six or eight gigabytes of RAM. The Android 12 operating system powers the phone, with a proprietary overlay (MIUI 14). Bonus for purists: a jack, for connecting headphones or earphones.
