Your workplace meetings should soon be a lot easier to manage thanks to a new Google Workspace update that’s kicking Outlook users in from the cold.
The office software platform has announced a change that will help Outlook work more seamlessly with Google’s calendar app, with the latter’s meeting organizers now actually appearing in Google Calendar meeting events.
As the company points out in an update blog postIf a Microsoft Outlook user had previously invited a Google Calendar user to a meeting event, the Outlook user’s display name would not show up in the meeting attendee list on Google Calendar, but eventually that’s about to change.
Better together
Now, thanks to the new Google Workspace update, any Outlook user who hosts a meeting will actually be listed among the other meeting attendees in Calendar as the meeting organizer.
The change, which is being rolled out and requires no action on your part, will affect all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts.
It’s such a simple feature that we’re amazed Google and Microsoft haven’t made it work before, and it’s no doubt going to be a huge boon to users everywhere. The two platforms previously announced how Outlook and Google Calendar would look to work more closely together, with a May 2023 update that will enable better interoperability, i.e. allowing users of both systems to share their availability status, so that everyone can view their respective programs.
The news represents the second significant recent boost for Outlook users looking for a better way to sync their calendars with collaboration services, after Microsoft Teams also revealed a new change that should make email calendar syncing more Outlook with Teams much easier.
With the update, Microsoft is saying that any changes you make to your calendar in Outlook will be reflected in your Teams calendar in real time and vice versa, ideally putting an end to any embarrassing mistakes.
