Despite the impressive size of Star fieldof the explorable galaxy by, speedrunner Micrologist managed to complete Bethesda’s latest open world RPG in just 2 hours, 51 minutes and 42 seconds – an impressive achievement by any measure (via VG247). Although Star field speedrunning is still in its infancy, Micrologist’s ability to surgically cut dialogue and combat encounters makes for fascinating, if somewhat spoiler-laden viewing.
There is something poetic about speedrunning in a game that contains so many hours of content. However, the practice of competing to complete Bethesda RPGs in record time is nothing new. Second speedrun. comBethesda’s previous single-player offering, a fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was completed in less than 23 minutes. ‘Waz’, a speedrunner from Northern Ireland, holds the current record with 22 minutes 58 seconds.
AS Skyrim mature, we will likely see speedrunners find ways to reduce micrologue time. However, in these early days, Micrologist’s efforts are sure to pave a path for future speedrunners, creating a path for those looking to run towards Star fieldis the proverbial goal.
It’s also likely that, as speedrunners continue to familiarize themselves Star field, we will start to see other more niche forms of speedrunning. For example, the very successful fantasy RPG from Larian Studios Baldur’s Gate 3 has already spawned a subgenre of speedrunning dedicated to wooing fellow players as fast as possible. Given Star fieldof Bethesda’s romantic companions, it’s not entirely unlikely that Bethesda’s RPG will spawn a similar form of speedrunning.

Plus, with the game officially releasing on Xbox Game Pass in a matter of hours, we won’t be waiting long to see a whole new group of gamers experience the game first-hand.
